Like any skilled influencer, they find a way to navigate their chosen niche with clickbait headlines and other enticing ways to get viewers to find and click on their content.
Brooke Baevsky, also known as Chef Bae, started making $2,000 pizzas and $200 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the super-rich as a parody. However, later her wealthy clients saw it and started to request those ridiculous dishes for themselves!
According to a source, 27-year-old Chef Bae searched for something signature to help her score likes, clicks, and follows. So, she settled on the idea of making deluxe versions of everyday dishes.
The article states her goal was: “Every ingredient should be the priciest she could find at Erewhon, the only-in-LA supermarket which makes Whole Foods look like the Dollar Store.”
Her career started with lunchbox staples such as peanut butter and jelly made with $25, gluten-free buckwheat bread, and superfood powders sprinkled on top.
“People swear by it for improved sleep, but I’ve not experienced that,” she told the source with a laugh. “It tastes like water to me.”
Her funny videos did achieve what she set out to do. Her follower tally is now over 182,000 on Instagram, and her TikTok is now almost 300,000 at the time of this article.
As she gained popularity from her content, it took an interesting turn.
“I used to do the overpriced content as a parody. But clients saw it and thought it was so funny, they asked me to make it for dinner,” she said.
However, her social media presence isn’t the only experience this personal chef has had with fame.
According to the article: “She’s appeared on “America’s Test Kitchen: The Next Generation” and “Chopped,” placing second in her episode.
While the idea of an elevated dish made by a personal chef sounds fabulous, to be served what amounts to fancy peanut butter and jelly can be disappointing.
While I wouldn’t personally go out of my way to have a personal chef make something like a basic sandwich for that price tag, I can see the benefits of having her dishes for a catering event or for the more high-end options that require cooking.
While her “high-end” sandwiches and other staples might have been a fun way to get traction, she finds creative ways to help busy wealthy clients achieve the nutritional meals they so desperately desire.
According to the article: “One nutrition-boost trick Baevsky uses with athlete clients like 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey? Blending chicken breasts into their smoothies.”
While I don’t think I’ll be hiring a personal chef to make my smoothies or sandwiches any time soon, her out-of-the-box ideas on how to attain nutritional meals for all lifestyles is inspiring.
