If you have a toddler in the house, the chances are he/she is obsessed with Peppa Pig. Today I'm going to show exactly how you can recreate Peppa Pig cookies at home and bring a big smile to your little one's face.Peppa Pig cookies | Peppa And George cookies | How To Make Peppa Pig Cookies | Peppa Pig Cookie Recipe

    Peppa Pig Cookies

So here's the thing. Some time ago my now 4 year old daughter absolutely adored Peppa Pig. For a really long period of time, it was her most favorite cartoon. She has lots of Peppa Pig toys, she even went to see Peppa Pig Live Big Splash. And judging by how many kids went to see it, it's safe to say, that all English-speaking and not only English-speaking 3 and 4 year olds are obsessed with Peppa.

Several months ago, I saw someone posting Peppa Pig cookies for sale. I don't make cookies very often, but I figured, that it would be so much fun to recreate these Peppa Pig cookies at home.

I have to say, even though I had lots of distractions while making them, I absolutely enjoyed the process. Working with royal icing was kind of therapeutic and fun. Despite that my cookies weren't as perfect as I was hoping them to be (apparently I need some practice to get those lines straight), my daughter still enjoyed them so much.Peppa Pig cookies | Peppa And George cookies | How To Make Peppa Pig Cookies | Peppa Pig Cookie Recipe

Nevertheless, before you start decorating the actual cookies, I recommend you to practice a few times on a piece of paper. Piping those thin lines can be a little tricky. In this post I included as many pictures as I could. Despite that, I didn't take lots of George's pictures. It shouldn't be a problem though, since the process of decorating George is the same as decorating Peppa.

So, if you want to surprise your little one with his/her favorite cookie character, bear with me and I'll show you how to make Peppa Pig magic happen.

First things first - equipment. What I used:

    • Peppa and George cookie cutters
    • Royal Icing Mix
    • Icing Colors
    • Edible Powdered Food Color
    • Wilton Disposable Pastry Bags
    • Wilton #1 Round Decorating Tip
    • Wilton #2 Round Decorating Tip

I started off with making basic ginger cookies (see the recipe below). I made half a batch of Peppa cookies and half a batch of George cookies.

Next comes the fun part. In a large bowl, add icing mix and beat it with 3 tablespoons of water until stiff peaks form. If the icing is too stiff, add 1 teaspoon of water and beat again. Be careful not to add too much water.

You'll need several small bowls for mixing different colors. In the first bowl combine about 6 tablespoons of icing with just a tad of Pink icing color. You need to make a pink icing for outlining Peppa's and George's face. I recommend taking a color on just a tip of the toothpick and mixing it into the icing.

In a second bowl, combine 6 tablespoons of icing with a tad of Red icing color. This will be the color of Peppa's dress. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and set aside while you work with Pink icing.

In a third bowl, combine 3 tablespoons of icing with a tad of Blue icing color. This will be the color of George's outfit. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and set aside while you work with Pink icing.

Fill pastry bag attached with #1 decorating tip with 3 tablespoons of pink icing. Outline Peppa's and George's face and let the icing dry for about 30 minutes. I found this video tutorial to be very helpful for demonstration how to outline with icing. When you finish outlining Peppa's and George's face, cover the bowl with a remaining icing with a damp cloth and set aside while you work with Red icing.

Fill another pastry bag attached with #1 decorating tip with 3 tablespoons of Red icing. Outline Peppa's dress and let the icing dry for about 30 minutes. Cover the bowl with a remaining icing with a damp cloth and set aside.

Now, add about ⅛ teaspoon of water to a Pink icing. We need to make it slightly runny. Take a little icing in a teaspoon and fill Peppa's and George's face with Pink icing. Ley it dry for at least 30 minutes.

Add a few drops of water to a Blue icing and make it slightly runny. Take a little icing in a teaspoon and fill George's outfit with Blue icing. Ley it dry for at least 30 minutes. (I filled George's outfit first, but the sequence doesn't matter).

Add about ⅛ teaspoon of water to a Red icing and make it slightly runny. Take a little icing in a teaspoon and fill Peppa's dress with Red icing. Ley it dry for at least 30 minutes.

In a small bowl, mix 4 tablespoons of icing with Red icing color. This time, you need to make it dark pink color. When Peppa's face is dry, fill pastry bag attached with #1 Wilton tip with dark pink icing. Outline Peppa's and George's face, nose and smile and let the icing dry for about 30 minutes.

Fill pastry bag attached with #2 decorating tip with white (uncolored) icing and add Peppa's and George's eyes.

In the first bowl combine about 4 tablespoons of icing with just a tad of Pink icing color. The color should match Peppa's and George's face. Fill pastry bag attached with #1 decorating tip with Pink icing and add Peppa's and George's arms, fingers, tail, and legs. Let the icing dry for 30 minutes.

In a small bowl mix 1 tablespoon of icing with Black icing color. Fill pastry bag attached with #1 decorating tip with Black icing and add Peppa's and George's pupils and shoes.

Last step, using a cotton swab add a blush into Peppa's and George's cheek with an edible powdered food color. Let the icing dry for 1 hour.

Here you go! Our Peppa and George cookies are ready!

I hope you'll enjoy the process of decorating Peppa and George cookies as much as I did. And regardless of how perfect or imperfect these cookies come out, be sure, your kids will absolutely love them!

    Ingredients

    For ginger cookies

    • 1 ½ cup all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1 egg
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 7 tablespoons butter softened
    • 2 ½ teaspoons powdered ginger
    • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
    • 3 tablespoons honey slightly warmed up

    Instructions

    • In a medium bowl combine flour, baking powder, ginger and cinnamon.
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together butter and sugar. Stir in egg and honey.
    • Stir in dry ingredients into the wet ingredients. Mix until well combined.
    • On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough with your hands until nice and smooth. Put it back into the bowl, cover with plastic wrap and pop in a fridge to chill for 2 hours.
    • Remove the dough from the fridge, sprinkle working surface with a bit of flour and using a rolling pin, roll out the dough ⅛ inch thick.
    • Using Peppa and George cookie cutters, cut out the cookies and transfer to a parchment lined baking sheet.
    • Bake in a preheated to 350 F oven for 5-7 minutes. After 5 minute mark, keep a close eye on the cookies and be sure not to overbake.

Hello! I think I bought them on Amazon awhile ago. I don't see them there anymore, but Etsy has a few varieties.
