How To Make Croissant With Smoked Salmon And Cream Cheese
I've come up with this recipe just recently, when I was looking for the creative ways to use smoked salmon. Many appetizer recipes that use smoked salmon don't usually require cooking it, since it already has an incredible flavor and taste.
Since I had a pack of puff pastry, which was going to be baked anyways, I decided to incorporate smoked salmon in the recipe. But given that, baking can somehow destroy the smoky taste of a salmon, it was important to find a method, that will keep the deliciousness of the fish and not take away its signature smoky aroma.
As you can guess, I was lucky to find what I was looking for. But the original recipe was pretty basic and it felt like some ingredients were missing. That's when I quickly scanned through my fridge and realized that with just 2 simple and available ingredients, I can transform this appetizer into something extraordinary.
These croissants come out very delicate and moist, with just enough crisp that makes you want to keep eating.
If you regularly shop at Costco, you can buy the same smoked salmon brand that I used, which is Foppen Norwegian Smoked Salmon Slices. The fish is very thin and works beautifully in any recipe. But any other brand will work too.
So now, you know how to make croissant with smoked salmon and cream cheese. It's really easy and the result is so worth an extra 15 minutes of your time.
- 4 tablespoons cream cheese
- 8 slices smoked salmon chopped (I use Foppen brand from Costco)
- 1 tablespoons dill minced
- 1 pack 14oz puff pastry (I use Dufour)
- 1 egg beaten and whisked
- Preheat the oven to 355 F.
- In a medium bowl, mix together cream cheese, chopped salmon and dill.
- On a parchment paper, lightly roll out one puff pastry sheet until it is smooth. Use a pizza cutter or a regular knife, cut puff pastry sheet into the triangles of the even width.
- Place 1 tablespoon of smoked salmon filling on the widest end of each triangle. Beginning with the wide end of a triangle, roll the dough up into a croissant shape. Repeat the process with the remaining triangles and the second piece of puff pastry.
- Carefully transfer the croissants onto the baking dish, lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 20 minutes. Then remove from the oven, brush the top of each croissant with an egg and bake for another 5-10 minutes until the top is nice and golden.
