According to the New York Post, a former vegan opened up about her experience switching to meat and how it saved her life.

Vegan Struggles
Former vegan, Kai-Lee Worsley, was on a strict diet after living with vegans and included no animal products. Six months into this diet, she started feeling sick and even noticed her hair started falling out.
She shared in the post:
“I was extremely tired all the time. I couldn’t form coherent thoughts,” she told SWNS. “I would just lie in bed multiple times a week and I would spend all day in bed if I could.”
While many vegans don’t experience the same problems, it begs the question is it healthy to be on a strict vegan diet?
In the article, a doctor shares: “If you’re eating a strict vegan diet, it is very difficult to supplement enough of all of the nutrients and high-quality protein that you need to be strong and healthy,” said Dr. James O’Keefe, a cardiologist at Saint Luke’s.
However, plant-based diets can have numerous benefits such as lower body weight, reduced risk of cancer and heart disease, and of course the increase in whole foods to your diet.
Others Weigh In
Many commenters on the post had varying views on vegan diets. Some felt that unless you were rich, you couldn’t afford a vegan diet stating: “I believe this story. You can't get certain vital nutrients from a vegan diet, which is why veganism often entails taking handfuls of nutritional supplements daily.
It's a rich person's diet because you have to be rich to afford the supplements you'll be burning through on a monthly basis.”
However, others felt that the reason for nutritional problems were lack of commitment and discipline sharing: “Actually, you can get everything eating vegan. It’s just extremely difficult and most people don't have the discipline or knowledge to achieve it.”
A long time vegan shared her experience: “People I’m a vegan and I work out and get all nutrients I need. I’m 55 years old. I go to the gym 4-5 times a week and go for regular check ups so I know my levels are all normal. It’s a personal choice and if done correctly you are fine.”
However, still others disagreed that veganism just wasn’t the path for them: “I've gone vegetarian at different times in my life but there were always plenty of eggs, cheese etc. Vegan crosses a line I'll stand on the other side of…”
When considering a vegan diet, there are a lot of nutritional factors you need to consider. Getting rid of dairy and red meat can have benefits for your health, but require additional effort to make sure you aren’t missing out on necessary nutrients for survival.
While regular doctor checkups and working with a nutritionist can make sure you are staying on the right path as a vegan, it can be hard to notice that you are lacking in nutrients until they make their presence more known through hair falling out or brittle nails.
