One commenter shared: “Depending on the brand (if pre packaged) and the bakery (if not) I’ve seen TONS of examples of a muffin having anywhere from 50-300 more calories than a classic glazed donut without any added nutritional benefit.”
Another user added: “Shelf stable pastries in general tend to be gross piles of oil, and a bakery is like any other restaurant - they don't really care about food being healthy, just tasty so you come back.”
One user shared: “Fruit juice without added sugar is still junk. It's just sugar and no fiber.

Compared to other countries, many stated that the United States white bread is among some of the sweetest.
One user shared: “I tried some white bread when I was in the States and they're straight up making sandwiches with cake. That stuff is crazy sweet.”
Another user commented on the preservatives in U.S. bread by stating: “Went to the US once, bought a bread in a store, stayed good for 2 weeks. Bread does not stay good for 2 freaking weeks.”
One foodie shared: “Most protein bars. A good portion of them are loaded full of sugar. They're a handful of decent brands that's low in sugar though.” Another user shared the struggle: “It is a chore to find protein bars at a grocery store that aren’t loaded in sugar.”
A heated debate on whether or not sports drinks even made the list. One user shared: “Also, sugary sports drinks can actually be really good for people who are actually playing intense sport as long as they are consumed DURING the activity and not after.
They hydrate, and the sugar in them gives a quick boost of energy which is actually going to have no ill effect on your body since it will be burned up super fast. Unfortunately, most people consuming them haven't played sport and don't even need electrolytes.”
While another user stated: “Not nearly as effective as the full sugar versions though considering the fact that the sugar in these drinks is what increases how hydrating they actually are.”
One Redditor shared: "For the longest I’ve believed dried mangoes and other similar products had to be healthy because “duh, fruit! But the amount of sugar content you easily consume is ridiculous. Fresh fruit is where it’s at because you get lots of water as well, so you fill up faster."
