If you popped onto this page, means you’re seriously interested in starting your own web-site. And I’m so glad you are, because the process of creating a blog is really simple and should not take you more than 30 minutes. I’ll walk you through all the steps and very soon you will become an owner of your new and shiny blog.
Hi there! I’m so excited that you decided to take a plunge and start your own blog.
Creating a blog was the most fascinating thing I’ve ever did and I couldn’t be happier that I got my feet wet and despite doubts I became a blogger. It’s such an amazing and interesting journey and if you feel like you love sharing advices or recipes or talking about just anything, it’s time to start your blog.
Creating your own web-site is so so easy. Everyone can do it. I could do it and I’m not even a tech-savvy person. Follow these 3 easy steps that will help you start your own beautiful and unique blog.
1. Choose your hosting plan and domain. Think of a host as a landlord. Your blog is your apartment. You need to choose where you want your apartment to be. I recommend SiteGround as a host. I switched to them from another hosting provider about 6 months ago and couldn’t be happier. They provide an excellent customer service, good web-site speed and have reasonable prices.
Choose your Hosting Plan. I recommend starting with StartUp plan. Once your website traffic reaches over 10K page views monthly, you can upgrade to a different hosting plan.
Now choose “Register a New Domain” and write down the name of your website. I recommend “com” as a domain extension. If the name that you’ve chosen is taken, SiteGround will give you other suggestions. You can pick from there or think of another domain name.
Fill out your payment information.
2. Install WordPress
Now, that you’ve purchased a hosting plan and domain name, login to your SiteGround Account and click “Go to cPanel”.
Navigate to WordPress Tools and click “WordPress Installer”
Fill out your new web-site information. Choose https:// as your protocol.
Write down your web-site name and its description. You can change it later. Leave “Enable Multisite (WPMU)” box empty.
Create username and strong password. You can change your password later.
Create your web-site e-mail address. Later, you can redirect all your web-site e-mails to your personal e-mail address.
Leave “Select Plugins” boxes empty and you choose “None” option in “Choose a Theme To Install”.
Click “Install” button.
3.Choose a theme for your blog.
Now, that you’ve downloaded WordPress, it’s time to log into your web-site’s dashboard and choose a theme (your web-sites layout). Go to http://yourwebsitename.com/admin and type in your username and password.
Now, navigate to Appearance – Themes. Here, you should be able to see several themes suggestions. You can choose one of those or choose from hundreds of other WordPress themes. Just navigate to “Add New” button.
…and choose a theme that speaks to you (you can preview each of them before selecting) or upgrade to a premium paid theme.
It’s worth spending some time browsing a theme as every theme has its unique characteristics.
I, personally, used quite a handful of free and paid themes and here are some of my favourite premium themes.
1. Themes by Restored 316. These guys know how to make beautiful feminine themes. There, I purchased my first paid theme and was very pleased with a design and its functionality. If you’re a lifestyle blogger, any theme from Restored 316 would be a great choice.
2. Themes by Feast Design Co.
If you’re a food blogger, I can’t think of a better blog theme other than Foodie Pro. It has endless possibilities. Their Recipe Index is one of the most important features every food blog should have.
That being said, Foodie Pro is also a great pick for general bloggers, as it’s very versatile and can suit anyone’s needs.
That’s pretty much it. As you can see, creating a blog is really easy. If you still have any questions along the way, I’ll be happy to answer them.
