- Easy to Make: The recipe is so simple. Just mix everything in a standing blender and the batter is ready. I love it. No need to clean a pile of dirty dishes afterward.
- Pancake-Like Batter: This blueberry clafoutis comes out very puffy, soft, and juicy. The batter resembles the one used to make pancakes, and if you love pancakes, you'll fall in love with this easy rustic dessert.

Key Ingredients
- Whole Milk – Whole milk is the base of our clafoutis. It adds a rich, creamy texture to the dish and helps it set as it bakes.
- Eggs – Eggs are the binder in this recipe. They help hold everything together and give the clafoutis its deliciously light and fluffy texture.
- Blueberries – We are using fresh blueberries in this recipe. They add a sweet, juicy burst of flavor to the clafoutis and their beautiful color makes for a stunning presentation.
Substitutions and Variations
Here are some of our favorite variations and substitutions:
- Fruit: Claufoutis is usually made with cherries but you can make it with whatever fruits or berries you have. We happened to have fresh blueberries and they worked perfectly in this dessert. Raspberries, blackberries, and sliced strawberries would all work beautifully.
- Lemon Zest: A bit of lemon zest sprinkled over the batter before baking can add a bright, citrusy flavor. If you like the combination of blueberries and lemon, check out my Crostini with Brie and Blueberry Lemon Fruit Spread.

What to Serve with Blueberry Clafoutis
- Serve blueberry clafoutis warm or at room temperature. It makes a great dessert, especially when topped with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
- It can also be a delicious addition to a brunch spread. Consider serving it alongside other breakfast pastries, fresh fruit, and a pitcher of mimosas.
Frequently Asked Questions
Blueberry clafoutis is best served warm. It can also be enjoyed at room temperature, but many people prefer it warm. You can reheat any leftovers in the oven or microwave if you like.
Yes, you can use frozen blueberries for this recipe. However, keep in mind that they may release more moisture during baking, which can slightly affect the texture of the clafoutis. If using frozen blueberries, you can also toss them in a little flour before adding them to the batter to help prevent them from sinking to the bottom.
The clafoutis is done when it is puffed and golden brown on the top and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. This usually takes about 50 minutes in the oven.
Blueberry clafoutis can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Be sure to cover it with plastic wrap or store it in an airtight container to maintain its freshness.

TY for the recipe; I made it three times now and it is always a success. I had no idea you could make a clafoutis with blueberries; itโs really good, itโs a good way to use those blueberries that got too soft.

Chefboobay here, I lightened the sugar, added a little maple syrup. Using all organic on hand ingredients made this recipe perfectly delicious,... how could the neighborhood not love the smell.

Waste of my beautiful blueberries. The clafoutis was a rubbery mess and we had to throw it away. We followed instructions to the tee. I would not recommend this recipe. I realize itโs JCโs recipe so Iโm not blaming the original poster; just suggesting you consider another recipe to highlight any berries you have.

I now make this recipe regularly. It is so easy but looks and tastes as though it would take real skill to put together. I use whatever berries I have on hand and/or are in season. It is equally good with all.

Hi Diane! I'm so glad you like this recipe!
I agree, it is one of the easiest French dessert recipes. Surprisingly, I've made Clafoutis with blueberries only, but I definitely should try to make it with other fruits and berries as well.
